My taste in music is probably more expansive than the English Vocabulary
(may or may not be a slight exaggeration). I often get asked what my favourite songs from certain artists are, so I figured I would start a new series where I give you my top 5 songs from a certain artist/band. I am slightly nervous about this when it comes to certain artists cause choosing is the equivalent of choosing whether I like my boyfriend more than my makeup (i.e. impossible) (that was a joke) (kind-of). Why not jump into the deep end and start off with one of my all-time favourite bands: Imagine Dragons!
Imagine Dragons is an American Rock Band and easily in my Top 5 Artists. I have loved every single album they have brought out, and I honestly can’t name a single song I dislike, which makes this incredibly hard!
This song gives me chills every time, especially when I watch the video clip. The video clip portrays the meaning behind Demons so effortlessly, with people in the crowd of their concert, alongside these same people facing their demons. Besides the deep meaning and feeling behind it, I love it because of how raw it feels. There is a balance of quiet, thoughtful tunes, mixed in with almost screaming (at the demons, nevertheless) rock grunge.
Another song from Imagine Dragons with a killer meaning behind it. This one is pretty much a big stuff-you to all the non-believers. It is about overcoming a place of darkness, and fighting to find the light. Similar to Demons this song has iconic sound of Imagine Dragons, what with the steady paced beat-punching tunes, and then all of a sudden you get this high-intensity BAM aspect once the chorus hits.
I feel like Hopeless Opus is not as widely known as more mainstream songs such as Radioactive, but I flipping love it. I love belting out the chorus in the car at the top of my lungs (even though the chorus isn’t the most positive thing in the world). It talks about the troubles in life, and filling a void with a ‘hopeless opus’ that doesn’t amount to much. When the song hits around the 2:31 mark, and it goes into the Cherry Bomb breakdown, followed by the guitar solo, followed by chanting the chorus, UGH…it gets me every time.
Probably my FAVOURITE song off of Evolve, I flipping love the beat to this song, and how it mixes rock with pop and indie vibes. When I heard it for the first time I immediately thought it sounded a bit like something HAIM would bring out, musically speaking (think The Wire & Falling). My favourite part of the whole song would have to be 1:25 in with the DO DO DO DO – DO DO DO DO hits. SO sick, I don’t have any legitimate vocabulary to explain the greatness that is that beat.
Last, but certainly not least, in my top 5 is Dream which embodies soft-rock while still bringing that core-punching chorus to the table. The song talks about how life is a mess, but at the same time you still don’t want to believe that, so you choose to dream. I love the smoothness and authenticity to this song, and how it doesn’t try to fit inside a box, especially the rawness in Dan’s melodies at the end of the song.
Well there you have it! My top 5 Imagine Dragons songs! That was incredibly difficult to narrow my favourites down, but if I were to recommend only 5 of their songs, it would definitely be these ones! Let me know below if you have any recommendations for Artists for future Top Five Fridays!
